Music Monday | Written in Three Days | October 12, 2026

Some pieces take years. This one took three days. Eleanor Alberga’s 3-Day
Mix wears its origin in its title: the Jamaican-born composer wrote the whole exuberant piece in a single burst of three days.
Alberga decided at age five to become a pianist, and her very first composition, written at ten, was a musical portrait of the family Labrador. Born in Kingston, she won a scholarship to London’s Royal Academy of Music, later served as pianist and music director of the London Contemporary Dance Theatre, and in 2021 was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
The piece you’ll hear live in concert on Nov. 7 is that 3-Day Mix, written for two pianos. It bursts with the colour and cross-rhythms of her Caribbean roots and her years in dance, propulsive, playful, and almost impossible to sit still through.
Pianists Glen Inanga and Rebeca Omordia perform it as part of Timeless Harmonies, our 40th anniversary season opener celebrating the legacy of Black classical composers, at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. Here’s a taste, for two pianos:
